Hello! I am John Paul Sese Tosoc. I'm a Ph.D. in Biology candidate from Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) in Iligan City, Philippines. Currently, I'm working on my dissertation at the Pharmaceutical Research Institute in Albany City, New York, USA. ⁣

For this early #MotivationMonday, let me share my story. ⁣ Since I was in high school, I have always been asking myself the question, "What am I good at?". I was always that kid who has no clue what he can do. My academic performance was average, and my extracurricular pursuits were nowhere to be found.🙃I really just went with the flow and stayed in my comfort zone, being meek. 🤷🏻‍♂️So, I told myself that something has to change. I need to help myself and try to discover the skills and fields that I am good at.💪🏻The National Career Assessment Examination (#NCAE) has also determined my fate of being in the medical field, which gave me the idea of what program to get in college. ⁣

And guess what? I took BS #Biology as my pre-med degree👨🏻‍⚕️from the Notre Dame of Dadiangas University, General Santos City, in 2015. Although studying medicine was my ultimate dream, due to some reasons, I have decided to put that dream on hold.🙂So, I went straight to graduate school and took my MS Biology degree from MSU-IIT in 2017. Being in grad school showed me the different opportunities of being in the #STEM field. Excellent and supportive mentors guided me well; my love for #research grew and opened myself to the possibility of becoming a #scientist.🔬⁣

Now, I'm a #pharmaceuticalscientist 👨🏻‍🔬, meaning I study drug discovery, development, and delivery for the treatment or prevention of diseases. My current research involves the evaluation of the medicinal properties of Saluyot and its bioactive compounds for the potential discovery of new chemopreventive agents and the application of #nanotechnology for better drug delivery. ⁣

I hope you all got inspired by my story. And remember, don't be afraid of change or stepping out of your comfort zone. Always encourage yourself to explore, find what you are passionate about, and enjoy the journey of it.❤
