Hello everyone! Today, I would like to share with you what motivated me to pursue pharmaceutical science #research, specifically on the search of new chemopreventive agents and the utilization of #nanotechnology for direct and more efficient drug delivery. 🔬💊

#Cancer is one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide. And God knows how this disease terrified me when I was a kid. My great grandfather died from #coloncancer when I was still in grade school. I can still remember we regularly visited him at the hospital every weekend. And just last year, while preparing my documents for my research project here in the US, my dearest grandmother died because of #breastcancer.

When I got the news about my grandma's passing, I suddenly sensed that feeling of guilt and that thought of being a failure. Like, I could have done something to prevent it. I could have had educated my family about how this disease works, and maybe we could have done something to promote a healthier lifestyle in our household. This experience has tested my faith in cancer research and my trust in drug discovery. In my mind, I was asking myself, "Do I have to continue doing this kind of research? That despite having all of these interventions for cancer, the mortality rate of this disease is still continuously increasing. So, what's the point of doing this?".

But then, I have realized that I was actually given a second chance, a power if you may, to help people prevent and treat cancer through my research. And now, working on my #dissertation in the #US under the expert supervision of incredible #scientists in the fields of #pharmacology, #cellbiology, #nanotechnology, analytical and medicinal #chemistry have even widened my knowledge about drug discovery, development, and delivery for cancer treatment and prevention. Learning new techniques and bioassays that I could eventually share with my fellow #PinoyScientists in the Philippines leads to the improvement of pharmaceutical science research in our country. And I hope, one day, the #Philippines could produce new drugs to treat various diseases, like cancer.❤️
